ACTIVITIES
IN TIBERIAS

THE PARISH OF THE SEA OF GALILEE

The parish of Tiberias carries out regular activities for the small Christian flock present in a completely Jewish city. In addition to the daily Eucharistic celebration, in particular, in the strongest times of the year, the community helps the faithful to live the mysteries of Salvation more intensely. Every year, on the Sunday before or after the Chair of St. Peter (22 February), all the parishioners, Christians of Nazareth, religious of Galilee, gather to celebrate this feast day together. For Christians of Tiberias and its surroundings and for visiting pilgrims, the church of St. Peter is a corner of the city where they can retire to pray and listen to the Word of God.
Koinonia John the Baptist has been present in Tiberias since September 2010. The first parish priest of Koinonia was Fr. Giuseppe De Nardi, current General Pastor of Koinonia. After his election as Pastor General in June 2019, the parish priest of Tiberias became Fr. Giacomo Francesco Bergamin.
From September 2020 the new parish priest of Tiberias is Fr. Andrej Keller. In addition to parish activities, Fr. Andrej is responsible for the Koinonia Giovanni Battista present in Tiberias.

SAINT JAMES VICARIATE FOR HEBREW SPEAKING CATHOLICS

The parish is part of the Vicariate of St. James for Hebrew-speaking communities. The Vicariate of St. James is an integral part of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. The Vicariate brings together Hebrew-speaking Catholics living in Israel, those belonging to the Jewish people and those from other countries, including a number of local Christians and migrants. The faithful of the Vicariate form a community in Jesus Christ and belong to a single Church, in union with Pope Francis, with the Patriarch, his vicars, priests and all the faithful of the Latin Patriarchate. At the same time, they feel at home in the Hebrew-speaking Israeli society.
